Eatabout

About and sources

Where the facts come from

Business names, addresses and food hygiene ratings come from the Food Standards Agency's food hygiene rating open data. Everything else - what a place serves, prices, when it opens - comes from the business's own website or menu.

We write each fact in our own words. We do not copy menus or photos.

The Food Standards Agency lists restaurants and cafes as one group. We call a place a cafe or a restaurant only when its own name says so (for example "Cafe", "Coffee", "Restaurant", "Brasserie") or, for a chain, when the chain's own website does. The rest are under "Other places to eat" until we know more.

How we date and check facts

Every fact shows a link to where we read it and the date we checked it. Menus and prices change, so a fact can be out of date even when it was right on the day we checked. Please check with the business before you go.

If we could not find something, we say "Not yet known" rather than guess.

Food hygiene ratings

When a page shows a food hygiene rating, it is the rating published by the Food Standards Agency, with the date it was given, the date we last checked it, and a link to the Food Standards Agency's own page for that business. We never show a rating we have not checked in the last 28 days. It may still have changed since we checked, so the Food Standards Agency page has the latest. We never combine it with anything of ours.

We show every rating in the same way, whatever it is, and we choose which places appear on a page by what they serve, never by their rating.

This site is independent. It is not run by, or connected to, the Food Standards Agency or any council.

Who runs this site

Eatabout is run by the maker of ChefsRecords, food safety record software sold to kitchens. Eatabout is a separate service, and whether a business uses ChefsRecords makes no difference to whether or how it appears here. It is run by a sole trader. Contact details are on the privacy page.

No paid placement

We do not publish scores or reviews of our own. No business pays to be listed or to change what we say about it.

Allergies and dietary needs

Some places show what their own website says about vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free food. Menus and recipes change, so always check allergens directly with the business. We do not give allergy advice.

Corrections

If you run a business on this site and something is wrong or out of date, tell us at contact@eatabout.co.uk and we will check it and update the page.
